Lifting the Lid - Rediscovering the stories through uncovering the objects. A project to capture the information and increase engagement with the collections at the Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial.

Our museum would like to achieve greater engagement between our historic objects (currently inaccessible in store) and our volunteers, visitors and a wider audience. Providing new opportunities for up-close and individual contact with real objects, while improving collections care standards. The project will focus on researching, documenting, photographing and re-storing around 7000 small objects and personal archives currently jumbled together in 232 boxes. To do this we need to install a Spectrum compliant Collections Management System to improve catalogue records and some bespoke racking to improve care and make items more 'visible' for store tours. New engagement programmes will trial ways of taking our collection out to new users and making it more accessible and interactive on site.
