Lighting up the Hynish Shore Station - Anchoring Heritage, Building Resilience

In 2025, the Tiree community became proud custodians of Scotland’s only community-owned lighthouse shore station. This landmark transfer birthed the Hynish Trust, a SCIO dedicated to transforming the historic Skerryvore Shorestation site into a vibrant hub of heritage, creativity, and resilience—by the community, for the community. For two years, volunteers have tirelessly driven progress—reviving infrastructure, strengthening governance, and changing the use of buildings to match the Vision. A strong foundation has been laid, however a team is now critical to the future success. The first step is to recruit two essential roles—Heritage Preservation Officer and Sustainability Development Officer—to lead the next phase: embedding heritage into everyday life, celebrating Tiree’s Gaelic-speaking legacy, and unlocking the site’s full potential as a beacon of inclusive growth. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure the future of a nationally significant heritage site.
