Looking Up and Out: conserving Ickleton’s wall paintings and building inclusive connections

We will save highly valuable and at-risk medieval wall paintings through work on the church building, including clerestory windows, to prevent water damage and moisture ingress, and through conservation of paintings. This vital conservation work is necessary because of damage caused by a roosting population of bats. We will broaden access to this unique heritage for local families, including those with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and, in particular, with neurodiverse children, who are currently under-served at the church. Working in partnership with our local primary school, we will develop a suite of resources for use by primary school aged children including those with SEND and resources for families who visit independently, and celebrate the diversity of our vistors with a new wall painting.
