LUMB BANK – A STORIED HOUSE IN A HERITAGE LANDSCAPE

Arvon is a leader in literary heritage and a renowned supporter of today’s creative writers. As the owner of three historic writing houses in rural areas, we are responsible for safeguarding their future and sharing their heritage stories. The project at Lumb Bank in the Calder Valley, once the home of the poet Ted Hughes, will futureproof the building; produce a Conservation Management Plan for its long-term sustainability; and create a Heritage Strategy for documenting and sharing the historic Lumb Bank collection and the history of its surrounding landscape, a landscape described by Ted Hughes as ‘heavy with the dream of a people’. We will test the strategy through a consultation and events programme offering community-led heritage engagement; and we will build it into our next five-year business plan as part the Arvon North strategy to dramatically increase engagement with the landscape, literary, industrial and social heritage of the site.
