Historic Buildings
It's a story told so far only in fragments: how two incredible talents arose amid the dynamism of late nineteenth century Glasgow’s ‘workshop of the world’ creating an architectural and artistic vision that resonates worldwide. Mackintosh Illuminated will bring together conservation of the physical legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald, uniting it with fully accessible digital content and programmes of community and educational engagement to tell their stories, showcase their achievements and to put in context the times they lived in and the people they inspired. Our aim is to transform global understanding of Mackintosh and Macdonald, employing their most important surviving, publicly accessible cultural and design examples: the domestic masterpiece of The Hill House, Helensburgh and Mackintosh at the Willow in their home city of Glasgow, building on already exceptional community and educational engagement work, advancing our vision of Nature, Beauty and Heritage for Everyone.
