Magna Carta 1225 - 2025

Our project commemorates the 800th Anniversary of the 1225 Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest with a free public exhibition, providing a rare chance to view all three of the Society’s copies of Magna Carta. The 1225 version was given the Royal Seal once Henry III came of age (his father John had the 1215 version annulled). New and targeted audiences will have the opportunity to respond dynamically to our Great Charters through a learning and outreach programme of events and activities resulting in a community-curated online display which will explore their enduring impact. A new online resource containing digital editions of the Charters will be hosted permanently on our website and be freely accessible to all. The physical and online exhibitions and new digital resource will have a legacy as learning and educational tools beyond the project end date for at least 5 years
