Milton Heritage Project

To engage community members of all ages in discovering Milton’s lost history, as it’s been consumed by the ever-growing city of Portsmouth. Young people will learn new historical research skills working closely with historians and history teachers, researching historical archives, maps and census records. They’ll also work with a professional artist and photographer learning new art and photography skills, comparing historical images with modern Milton landscapes, creating exhibitions for the wider community, displaying their research, art and photography. The exhibitions will be launched with community heritage talks, and digital school resources will be created, which will teach Milton’s newly preserved heritage to future generations, long after funding ends. History teachers will also lead heritage trips around Milton and create an accessible heritage trail, captured in a detailed, downloadable ‘Milton Through the Ages’ community leaflet, physically available at the library, opening up Milton’s heritage to everyone in the present and future.
