Mix n Mortar: Plugging into Camden (RESUBMISSION)

‘Mix’n’Mortar: Plugging into Camden’ spearheads local audience development and co-programming for the world's first Museum of Youth Culture opening Spring 2026. MnM bridges local gaps in our collections and cultivates deep, localised roots within the community and organisations surrounding our permanent home in Camden. Partnering with London Borough Camden’s ‘LoveCamden’ 60 year celebrations and High Street pedestrianisation scheme, Mix”n”Mortar captures the authentic, everyday lived experiences of growing up in Camden, moving beyond the touristic perceptions of Rock’n’Roll to Amy Winehouse and recent gentrification. From the underground squat collectives of the 1980s to young Bengali and Irish diaspora, we want young people to feel pride and ownership of their unique heritage and enrich the broader community's understanding of the area's subcultural history. With the support of our in-house youth worker, this project prioritises young voices, positioning the Museum on a youth-centric trajectory at the onset of our 20-year tenure.
