Open Art: Dulwich Picture Gallery’s vision to restore our grounds and connect more people with our heritage.

Open Art is Dulwich Picture Gallery’s exciting plan to transform its grounds and gardens, opening up one third more of its site, reinstating the original entrance, improving accessibility and running new outdoor public programmes for audiences to connect with nature and the Gallery’s rich heritage. The stories of the Gallery and its collection will be brought to life through new outdoor programmes for all ages. Plans have been developed in response to visitor feedback and consultation around community needs, removing barriers to access, creating new garden volunteering opportunities as well as a new post of Gardener for our heritage site. The project has three clear pillars – environmental, social, and economic. Open Art will increase biodiversity sitewide and de-carbonise our energy sources. These future-proofing initiatives will help the Gallery’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2030, while introducing new primary drivers to attract more visitors and strengthen the business model.
