Orkney Junior Curators Programme (Scapa Flow Museum, Kirbuster Farm Museum and St Magnus Cathedral)

Orkney Islands Council Museum Service seeks to strengthen and develop robust links with schools through a new Junior Curators Programme. We aim to work in depth with three local schools and their doorstep cultural heritage to develop interpretation that speaks peer to peer by and for children, thereby building a life long engagement with Orkney heritage for its population and a deeper understanding of Orkney for visiting children and their families. The programme is founded on the principles of inclusion, access and participation through co-creational creative practice and aims to cement the continuation of Orkney heritage into the future. This programme extends and develops the work initiated during the NLHF funded redevelopment of Scapa Flow Museum in 2023. We have more that we want to do. We seek to future proof the value of heritage in Orkney through engagement with its children.
