Through the Our Cathedral, Our City project, our 699-year old Grade 1 Manchester Cathedral will transform its relationship with city and community. We shall co-create of the Cathedral's and Greater Manchester's tangible and intangible heritage that includes contemporary and controversial issues. We shall make the Cathedral environmentally, financially and organisationally sustainable for the future. We shall provide: at the West End, better access, new community and volunteer hubs, and public toilets; at the SE Range, roof repair and refurbished workspace for clergy and staff, including internalising a courtyard, bring the Library into community and commercial space; at the Regimental Chapel, improved access with a retractable lift. Through increased staff, apprentices, and three activity themes - Beyond the Building, No Longer Strangers, and Residents in Residence, we shall deliver: engagement with our building, our archives (including parish registers, governing body and estate records) and traditions, where stories will be researched, shared and enhanced by communities through conservation, digitisation and interpretation; staff and volunteer training and skills programme that delivers a quality experience to our visitors and enables them to feel welcomed as part of the Cathedral's community and heritage, with inclusive, audience-appropriate and community and stakeholder-led events and activities.
