Outside the Exhibit

Outside the Exhibit is a three-year initiative (April 2025–March 2028) engaging four small Hertfordshire museums in Royston, Hitchin, Stevenage, and Watford to explore the heritage of local green spaces. The project offers 180 participatory activities, nine exhibitions/installations, four digital resources, and heritage trails, combining heritage, arts, and environmental awareness. It is a collaboration among BEEE Creative, museums, eight community partners, a Community Connectors Network, and nine professional artists. Focused on inclusivity and co-production, the project draws on lived experiences (e.g., disability, poverty, displacement) to address barriers and prioritise accessibility. It fosters intergenerational interactions and creative exploration making heritage engaging and conserving human stories. Targeted participants include young people and adults with learning disabilities, refugees, carers, and families in areas of higher deprivation, while remaining open to all. The project promotes green space advocacy, addressing urbanisation, identity, and community pride. The planned organisational development ensures inclusive, impactful planning and evaluation.
