Participating in the heritage of Dalcroze in the UK

Dalcroze Eurythmics, a method of music education that teaches music through movement, originated as part of the European avant-garde in the early 20th century. While it has had a profound influence on the teaching of music, acting and movement practice, a long-established history in the UK and a dedicated archive at the University of Surrey, awareness of the method is very low. This heritage and dedicated resource is known to very few people and rarely accessed. We want to understand how our organisation can open up access to, and improve understanding of this democratised method of music education through our archive. We will co-create a participatory project with The Song School in Southend to construct and test a sustainable audience development roadmap which will enable engagement with our heritage to inspire understanding and participation, and the onward transmission of a method that allows everyone to engage with music.
