St Lawrence Great Waldingfield is a beautiful Grade I Listed church. In 1869 an impressive Reredos was created using stones gathered by two adventurous spinster sisters of the then Rector. They explored Italy and the Middle East, being recorded as the first European ladies to travel up the Nile. Made of 26 mosaic panels, this unique mosaic Reredos has deteriorated over the last 20 years and at risk of decaying beyond repair. This project responds to the need for urgent restoration, but also incorporates new opportunities to learn about our shared heritage and appreciate the traditional crafts used to create the mosaic. We will deliver various community events, bringing wider ranges of people into the church, including displays, exhibitions, heritage and nature trails. We will produce large print and Braille materials to make our heritage more accessible. Activities for all ages will make interactive learning a fun and enjoyable experience.
