Portslade history - 1066 to 2066

This project will maintain and ensure the long-term survival of Portslade's Norman manor house ruins. This very rare example of a Norman manor house is Grade II* listed building and also an Ancient Scheduled Monument. The site is significant to local people as the birthplace of modern day Portslade. We will claim back more land from the overgrown thicket areas. Here we will develop a learning space to be used for lectures, displaying of history artefacts and memorabilia, and also running our community engagement programmes and heritage outreach activities. We will develop a pop-up, sessional, Portslade museum to tour Portslade to increase engagement in local heritage. We will run 65 free walks, talks, activities and on-line videos to retell Portslade's history, its characters and capture people's memories of its more recent past. We will conduct further research of the conservation area, including a community archaeological dig at the manor ruins.
