Project Orpheus

To celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of an Orpheus mosaic in Cirencester in 1824, the Barn Theatre and Corinium Museum are partnering to launch Project Orpheus involving local organisations New Brewery Arts, Gloucester History Festival, RSPB Gloucestershire and Wild Cirencester. The project’s focus is Cirencester’s Roman history, a crucial aspect of the town’s identity, and will remind locals of their forgotten heritage by bringing mosaics from the British Museum store back to Gloucestershire for the first time in 200 years. The history of the Roman Town will reach non-traditional audiences across the rural Cotswolds in dynamic ways, including an Orpheus Parade and song, a LEGO tour at the Corinium Museum, talks, nature walks, re-wilding, opportunities for students to learn archaeological techniques first-hand with professional archaeologists.
