#PW Anglican Heritage Salisbury development project

Anglican Heritage Salisbury (AHS) is a two-year project to establish new forms of support for struggling churches at risk of closure in the Anglican Diocese of Salisbury. Churches are often the oldest and most valued of buildings in our communities, yet many of them are increasingly fragile, socially and materially. An escalation in church closures and a backlog of extensive and essential buildings work has increased the threat to our church buildings, which risk being lost to their communities unless a new approach to their care is found. Through research and partnership, AHS hopes to develop a heritage trust to offer a ‘safe harbour’ for open churches on the edge of sustainability, so that fewer reach closure and more return to resilience, with an increased level and range of community participation. AHS will operate as a pilot to be adapted by other dioceses facing the same challenges.
