Historic Buildings
In partnership with the Church in Wales (CinW) we will transform Welsh burial grounds (all denominations and none) into valued heritage hotspots. We will increase biodiversity, showcase social history and built heritage, engage local communities in becoming involved in these free, accessible, green-spaces, celebrating the distinct Welsh culture found within. With new staff in each CinW diocese, we will use existing parish clusters as an entry point from which to engage other denominations and local communities using a range of solutions to reach beyond the faith community: • Engaging locally to find long-lasting viable management solutions • Generating local interest in the breadth of heritage • Making burial grounds the hub for local nature recovery, best practice management and carbon management • Encouraging community involvement and volunteering, increasing the sustainability and resilience of Welsh burial grounds • Provide volunteer training Legacy includes stronger links between communities and burial ground heritage with long term volunteering opportunities developed.
