Historic Buildings
#PW New Futures Programme – Former Places of Worship
Through this programme we will proactively engage with communities across Scotland, alerting them to the threat and opportunities that exist in the rationalisation of the ecclesiastic estate. We will support those who want to explore options for repurposing their places of worship and help them to develop sustainable futures for these key historic assets. We will specifically target resources to support areas of disadvantage and marginalised communities and will work with partners to reduce the barriers these communities experience in securing ownership/ management of assets. As a result of this initiative, communities will have had the opportunity to consider the needs of their place and the role/future for key places of worship with many of these heritage assets moving into community ownership. Extensive training, networking and peer support opportunities created; building and developing capacity within communities across Scotland Resources will continue to be utlilised providing long-term benefit.
