Reaching New Heights

We want to protect and conserve the Cathedral’s historic built fabric, ensure its intrinsic architectural value is retained and mitigate a substantial risk of loss to national heritage. When the Cathedral’s northeast pinnacle fell in Storm Arwen, it had huge impact on the people who love the Cathedral. There was disruption to worship and visiting, but it was more than that: we had seen the Cathedral start to fall down in front of our eyes. It’s so easy to assume the Cathedral is eternal; it’s always been there and always will be. When the pinnacle fell, we were reminded that, that isn’t so. The Cathedral is always at risk. We are always rebuilding it, preserving heritage skills, fundraising, and stewarding. The Cathedral is, and should be, a promise of hope in the community, that we can weather the storms. This project is to make that possible for the next century.
