Reanimating Coalhouse Fort

The ‘Reanimating Coalhouse Fort’ project aims to rescue and sustainably reopen this historic site in East Tilbury, which has been closed since 2020 and is on Historic England’s ‘At Risk’ register. The project is focused on establishing the long-term vision for the whole site under the strategic direction of a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation which will also lead on developing new partnerships, business and funding opportunities. Current outline plans to bring the casemates, gate house and parade ground back into community, education and business use will be further developed alongside vibrant community engagement and volunteering programmes. By securing funding for this foundational work, the project will enable us to detail plans, establish the CIO, and build a long-term strategy — ultimately preserving the Fort’s heritage, engaging the community, and creating a lasting cultural and economic asset for future generations.
