Historic Buildings
Our project will bring about phase 1 of the restoration of Margam Castle, a grade I listed building set in one of the most significant historic landscapes in Wales and a building designated At Risk by Cadw. This exciting and ambitious phase focusses on saving the castle and bringing new uses to attract new audiences and generate income. Rooms that have not been used for over 50 years will be made accessible to the public. The castle will be saved by a major repair and conservation programme followed by creating new uses to serve not just our local community but to attract visitors from further afield, along with a new cafe. Our activities, exhibitions, interpretation and extensive volunteering programme will all be codesigned with our education delivery partners, a truly innovative collaboration second to none. This project forms a flagship of our ambition as an authority and links to our recent strategies.
