Historic Buildings
The project will establish St Edward’s – an historic Grade II* listed church – as a placemaking centre for the small rural town of Castle Donington, in North Leicestershire but near to Derby. It will enable the local community to engage more fully with the life of the town, serving as a social centre and community venue. The project will establish what the community wants and what the building needs to make this possible. We will engage an Audience Consultant to establish links with local organisations and run consultation and pilot activities to explore how the historic church building can best serve the needs of local residents, including the many Derby / East Midlands Airport commuters living on recently built housing estates. We will install new heating, so that the church can be used year-round and will scope all repair and refurbishment works needed to make it fit for purpose.
