Rejuvenating the Pride of Trowbridge

The Trust’s objective is to ensure the heritage of both Trowbridge and its iconic Town Hall is delivered as part of the major restoration project currently in progress and, in doing so, integrate an imaginative and accessible heritage offer that will enhance the other activities the Trust has to offer. The original interior configuration of the building was radically altered in 1975, when it became a Magistrates Court, before finally being abandoned by Wiltshire Council in 2002. A decade later, a small group of local residents persuaded the Council to allow them access and demonstrate the building's value as a community asset. Such was their success, a decade later, Wiltshire Council allocated £9million of grant money from the Future High Streets Fund, to enable a major capital refurbishment to take place, presenting the Trust with an opportunity of celebrating the heritage of the county town and its most totemic building.
