Repairing the Rock: Saving St Peter’s and All Souls

The project aims to undertake the repair and conservation of this severely threatened grade II listed church – the work of renowned Victorian architect Leonard Stokes. The building has long been on the ‘Heritage at Risk’ register, where it is described as ‘poor and deteriorating’. The works will see the saving of the church buildings, making them, and the green space in which they are located, accessible to the local community once more. The project will also celebrate and focus upon the history of the church buildings, and the local community in which they are located. The history and heritage of the Catholic revival in East Anglia is recognised as being a marginalised and long-overlooked history. This project aims to document the history of the local community that it helped to build, creating local archives, exhibitions, and drawing upon the rich resources available in the most multicultural community in East Anglia.
