Restore and Reuse Keelmen's Hospital as Affordable Housing

TWBPT will rescue this Grade II* building from the national Heritage at Risk register. Working in partnership with Newcastle City Council we will create a viable affordable housing solution from a valued landmark that has been empty for over 15 years. The community will be engaged during Development and Delivery Phases, with a digital solution for post completion. We are working with Northumbria University to create a debate about social housing, will support the Young Architects Network to examine skills and specification and develop a Heritage Skills Programme with CCT. We will build our relationship with Comfrey Project to deliver skills and volunteering opportunities. Keelmen's has been identified by the Partnership as an opportunity to deliver an exemplar in historic building retrofitting. An energy efficient building which harnesses renewable energy technology such as heat pumps and photovoltaic panels, whilst responding to the historic building’s fabric and character.
