Revealing Dorset's Hidden Treasure

Dorset Museum & Art Gallery would curate a special exhibition showcasing its Treasure acquisitions within the national context of the Treasure story during Summer 2026. The aim is to highlight the importance of Dorset’s archaeology and to explore the wider history of our country, thanks to high-profile loans. Audiences would see newly conserved and mounted collections not previously displayed, enjoy highly significant archaeological finds from Dorset and other prestigious British museums, focusing on the discovery stories of Treasure objects and how they enhance our understanding of the past. A supporting programme of activities and events will enable different audience groups to connect with the themes of the exhibition in different ways. We would also pilot a new programme of lending, inviting museums across Dorset to borrow treasures from our collections that are important to their local communities, to create a ‘Treasure Trail’ across Dorset with a legacy of future lending.
