Historic Buildings
The REW Heritage SCIO would like to stage a series of historical themed events during 2023 linked to the ongoing research projects run by the University of the Highlands and Islands Institute and the University of Bradford Department of Archaeological Sciences at Swandro and Skaill Farm sites at Westness, Rousay. The project will pay for drawings to be produced showing what the sites and people would have looked like during the various time periods; these will be displayed in the Heritage Centre. These two multiperiod sites are located on the Western side of Rousay within a remarkable landscape containing a wealth of historic sites spanning 5,000 years of history, from the Neolithic to the 19th century clearances. And provide hands-on memorable experiences for all ages. This project will bring the community together, reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and increase interest in the work of the REW Heritage SCIO.
