Historic Buildings
Denbighshire County Council with the Ruthin Town Clock Restoration Committee want to restore Ruthin Town Clock, located on St. Peter's Square. This building at the heart of the town, was built in 1883 to commemorate local man Joseph Peers who was a Clerk of the Peace for over 50 years in the 19th century. The ornate structure, designed by the prominent architect John Douglas has now sadly started to show its age, and needs a programme of work to include stonework and work to the clock mechanism. We want to engage the local community in the project through a series of events to appeal to everyone in society such as lectures, workshops, tours, work experience opportunities, an exhibition and other activities about the Clock. We want to save the Clock for future generations, using local suppliers wherever possible, while encouraging the local community and others to participate in the project.
