Rutland's Historic Churches: Preserving the Past for the Present and the Future

Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust (RHCPT) provides financial assistance with repair and conservation to all churches and chapels in Rutland. This project will expand RHCPT’s role in advising and supporting churches with project planning. Element 1 of the project is a census of the churches. The census will investigate: what repairs or restoration are needed; any reordering ambitions; barriers to undertaking work; knowledge of funders; volunteer and management capacity in the congregation/community; attitudes, concerns and perceptions about the future. The results will assist RHCPT, tHF and other funders and could inform the development of grant programmes. Element 2 is a training programme designed to address census findings thereby building knowledge and confidence. Element 3 will practically and financially support churches to progress repair, restoration and reordering projects through help with professional fees (e.g. architect, conservator, surveys), guidance through permissions processes, and grant applications to appropriate funders.
