Save Standish Spire

As you approach Standish, the spire of St Wilfrid's Church is the most visible landmark, symbolising the continuous presence of the church through changing times and passing generations. We want to see that continue for many years to come. St Wilfrid’s is the only Grade I listed building in the Borough of Wigan; an architectural gem of which we are all rightly proud. However, the church spire is in urgent need of repair to ensure it remains. This project is more than repairing the spire though. It is the catalyst to increase outreach to our community, to make St Wilfrid’s more widely known, as a place for worship, place of peace and reflection, and important historic asset and community facility. As people engage more fully with the building and its history, so will their understanding and appreciation for its significance and value to our community, both then and now.
