Saving Peter Womersley’s Bernat Klein Studio

Our project will save one of Scotland’s most significant buildings of the twentieth century: Peter Womersley’s Bernat Klein Studio (1972), currently in a dilapidated state and at risk of being lost forever. Our ambition is that the Studio should be returned to its original use as a design studio. This would be combined with a programme of public engagement, and direct public access as is appropriate given the scale and future creative use. Ideally, the restored Studio will enable the creation of a permanent base in the Borders for the Bernat Klein Foundation. This application will support the first phase of the project, and development of the second phase. This includes acquiring the property, carrying out a serious of urgent and immediate works identified through condition surveys, and enabling development of a concept design.
