Historic Buildings
We will undertake urgent works to ensure the safety of Grade II* listed Poltimore House which is in danger of collapse following a highly destructive fire caused by an arson attack in April 2024. The weight of the fire- damaged scaffolding and sheeting on walls which have been weakened by fire, is now posing the single most significant risk to the survival of the building. We have the support of Historic England for a phased approach to secure and record the building post-fire. We will also buttress an unstable Tudor gable. The grounds and outbuildings remain open to the public, house our volunteers room and cafe and are used daily by organisations supporting excluded young people. We will consult our existing users to inform future plans for a sustainable use for Poltimore House.
