Securing the sustainability of Watts Gallery
Our mission to ensure the future sustainability of Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village heritage museum site as a strategic ‘creative hub’ for our Surrey community is at risk unless essential repairs are made to the Gallery’s failing environmental control system. Watts Gallery was founded by renowned Victorian artists and social pioneers, George Frederic Watts and Mary Seton Watts as a purpose-built, publicly accessible gallery and the embodiment of their ‘art for all’ ethos – still our vision today. Thanks to huge local and public support, Watts Gallery was saved for the nation in 2011. Critical repairs are urgently needed to ensure a viable future for Watts Gallery and our historic site. They will help us retain vital Government Indemnity Insurance, develop income streams, protect the gallery and our collection from the impact of climate change, maintain year-round access to important local heritage, and support our dynamic exhibitions and participatory programmes.
