Shedlight: Young voices shining a light on 25 years of inclusive practice

Shedlight will document and celebrate Hackney Shed’s 25-year legacy by empowering young people as archivists to shine a light on inclusive youth provision in Hackney. Through archival research and collecting oral histories, participants will gain the skills to tell their own heritage story. An integrated group of Disabled and non-disabled young people will uncover how inclusive practice has transformed lives and communities in Hackney. They will then co-create a digital timeline, reflecting Hackney Shed’s evolution and the power of inclusive theatre to give voice to all abilities. In partnership with Hackney Archives, we will display our findings in their exhibition space and deliver a series of creative projects in response to our heritage, engaging the wider community. Telling this heritage story now will make a vital contribution to Disability arts heritage, in danger of being overlooked. This youth-led project aims to inspire a new generation to champion inclusion.
