Spire repair, Pond Square Chapel, Highgate - Phase 1

Action is required to protect the heritage of Pond Square Chapel as a building and ensure it is safe to use into the future to continue as a engaged congregation and community hub. Unfortunately a significant area of failure to the building spire has been identified. The iconic landmark stone spire tops the stone faced stair tower. A detailed survey of the 23 courses of stone above the cornice and the 4 lucarne windows between courses 6 and 9 is required to confirm the full extent of the repairs/rebuild needed. Based on advice this application covers only the costs of the survey and quotation stage, employing a project manager, conservation steeplejack and structural engineer’s survey, with the intention that once the work needed to protect the heritage and continued safe use of the building are confirmed, and the costs of that work are clear, a separate application will be submitted.
