Historic Buildings

St Andrew’s Church Spire Conservation

This project will address critical issues with the fabric of our Grade II listed building which is a landmark presence in the notable townscape of Thornhill Square. Through urgent repairs and consolidating works to the spire, our aim is that St Andrew’s future is safeguarded and our heritage preserved for future generations. Interim works previously undertaken are no longer sufficient and the situation has now become an emergency. Without this project there is a very real risk that the building could be lost. It is listed as Category A on the HARR. The project forms the first part of the first phase of a longer term programme of capital repairs and renewal. The project also allows us to build on our growing programme of community activities and put into practice what we have learnt from our previous HF-funded project, addressing community need and engaging more people in our heritage.
