Historic Buildings

St Andrew’s Farnham: Routes & Ringers

Our goals are to: save the tower of St Andrew’s Church; restore a lost historic soundscape; upgrade facilities and build operational capacity. St Andrew’s is a Grade I listed church in the heart of historic Farnham. The largest parish church in Surrey, founded in the 7th Century. Its tower is unsafe, its bells silenced, a section of churchyard closed. Its past as a centre of historic walking routes and pilgrimage in a gateway town to the Surrey Hills National Landscape, is unexplored. We can change this through a programme of repairs, improvements and heritage engagement. Alongside urgent structural repairs we will: improve access and toilets, empower volunteers to run a centre of excellence for church bellringing and a walking/pilgrimage hub, and promote traditional heritage skills. Investment will underpin a sustainable future, revitalising an historic building and creating a national exemplar of how community-led heritage can promote a vibrant working church.
