St Cuthbert’s; Opening Doors

St Cuthbert’s Darlington is one of the most iconic churches in the north of England. Located in the heart of the town centre conservation area. It has been a fixed point in the changing townscape for over 800 years, where communities have gathered, shared experiences and struggles, celebrated, and worshiped. In recent years, thanks to NLHF, we have repaired our fabric and worked towards making the church relevant and accessible. Now, with a major Church of England grant, which will reorder our building and make it accessible and welcoming, we have the opportunity with this additional application to NLHF, to provide a venue for arts and events and develop activities that engage people with our heritage. By "Opening our Doors" both physically and figuratively, we will engage new audiences, boost volunteering, deliver activities, share our heritage, contribute to town centre life, and make resources available for visitors and students.
