Historic Buildings
St George and St Mary's Church is on the Heritage At Risk register and deteriorating with every rainfall. The roof is leaking and rainwater goods have failed. As a result internal stonework is saturated, woodwork swelling with damp and plaster turning green with mould. Historic England advise emergency roof repairs are now an urgent necessity. This project is to carry out those emergency repairs to protect and stabilise the structure and pave the way for full restoration in due course. The ultimate aim is to completely repair, and retrofit the interior with modern amenities to provide a multi-functional space for worship, local community use, meeting space and entertainment. Several regular community groups already engage with the Church in adjacent temporary facilities. An exciting schedule of heritage activities has been devised to engage the local community and engender interest and pride in local history.
