Historic Buildings
The aim is to remove of St John the Baptist Church from the Heritage at Risk Register and secure its long-term future, both for worship and as a safe space which welcomes visitors and will be used by the wider community. We want to celebrate the history of the church by establishing a timeline for the building’s history as a Chapel of Ease and more recently as a parish church, looking at its connections with local families in the context of local and national events. We would like to future proof it for at least another 100 years and manage the church and churchyard in an environmentally sustainable way going forward. The project will provide opportunities for contractors and volunteers to learn new skills, and for the church to develop mutually beneficial relationships with local families and community groups.
