Historic Buildings
Our overall vision for St Martin’s Church Centre is to deliver a transformational project by taking a tired and damp old building and creating a welcoming, dry and warm facility which is open and accessible for all. We will protect and celebrate its heritage whilst creating a centre that will serve the church and community for the foreseeable future. The aim is to solve the significant damp issues and introduce an efficient new renewable heating system, making the building carbon net zero. We will do this by reroofing the 160-year-old roof, repairing or replacing the guttering and downpipes, insulating the roof and adding solar panels. We will repair the broken paving area to the south of the building that is letting water into the basement “Cellars”, the dedicated youth club area, and we will create a heritage display to celebrate the building’s earlier use as a national school.
