St Mary’s Cathedral Renovation Project

Our project will secure the future of St Mary’s Cathedral by addressing urgent repair needs while improving how people access and engage with its heritage. Essential works include repair of the failing nave floor, removal of asbestos, and installation of a new energy-efficient heating system. These are critical to keep the building safe, open, and sustainable. Alongside this, we will deliver a programme of community heritage engagement, focusing on the cathedral’s stained glass, archives, and diverse history. We will work with schools and young people, and deliver an oral history project to capture the experiences of the congregation. This project will increase participation, strengthen community connections, and improve access to the cathedral’s heritage. It forms the first phase of a wider plan to develop the site as a sustainable and inclusive community space for the future.
