St Mary's: Reviving the Heart of Teesdale’s Faith and Heritage

Commence work towards removing St Mary the Virgin, Middleton in Teesdale from Historic England’s at Risk Register by undertaking a feasibility, survey and costing work to develop a works programme to open the church and provide additional facilities for the community and visitors which make the history and heritage accessible and will reopen the church to visitors and worshippers. The church has a rich history including the original church dating to the Norman period with artefacts encased in the current church walls. We will deliver a programme of heritage activities including archaeology, lead mining walks, Norman festival, traditional music and poetry to engage all ages with the heritage of the church and surrounding area. A business plan will be produced summarising the vision for the future of the church as a heritage and cultural venue. The technical work will provide a basis for fundraising for the capital works.
