St. Michael-in-the-Hamlet: Preserving history, enhancing environment, and creating community in Liverpool

This project will repair and restore St Michael-in-the-Hamlet, a Grade I listed church of outstanding architectural and historical importance. Still an active place of worship, the church is experiencing renewed community interest and momentum—making this the perfect time to secure its future. We have a unique opportunity to transform the building into a safe, sustainable, and welcoming hub for Liverpool’s diverse communities. By opening up access to its rich heritage, we will foster stronger community connections, inspire civic pride, and attract new audiences. It is vital we act now—before the fabric of the building and its community role diminish. Alongside essential repairs, we will deliver engaging educational programmes exploring both the church’s remarkable history and its relationship with the natural world. Through activities for all ages, people will deepen their understanding of heritage, native wildflowers, and pollinators—building a stronger sense of place and responsibility for the environment.
