St Michael's Presbytery: Adapting the Past, Engaging the Future

This project aims to evaluate the potential for redeveloping St Michael’s Presbytery, a Grade II* listed building, into a vibrant space that preserves its heritage while addressing local needs. As Phase 1 of a wider redevelopment initiative, this project will assess the building’s structural condition, explore viable future uses, and engage the community to ensure their voices shape the vision. By providing a clear roadmap for repair and sustainable reuse, this feasibility study lays the groundwork for transforming the presbytery into a dynamic space that serves as a catalyst for regeneration in Elswick. Furthermore, this project will demonstrate the power of collaborative planning to inspire further investment and social cohesion. Through its inclusive approach, it will leave a lasting impact in shaping the adaptive reuse of the presbytery, empowering the community, and showcasing how strategic assessment and planning can unlock the potential of underutilised heritage assets across the Diocese.
