St Paul’s Church Bedford: Tower, Clock and Bells Appeal

Our vision is to restore the historic tower, clock, and bells at St Paul’s. We will restore the tower, an iconic feature of Bedford’s skyline and an instantly recognisable symbol for our town, which is crumbling from the inside out and requires urgent work to stabilise the structure and masonry. We will restore the clock mechanism and chimes for the clock which was originally funded by public subscription as a symbol of Bedford’s civic pride We will restore and re hang the bells which have rung out for over 400 years to mark religious, civic and national events. They now urgently need re-hanging to prevent them falling silent forever. This project will also create a place for the development of training and development for bellringing and encourage the engagement of the next generation of young bellringers in this long-lived, but increasingly unsupported, art.
