Museums And Archives

Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones will give our countywide, heritage rich community of museums a resilient foundation for the future as we navigate a period of significant change. Working in partnership with all local authorities in Suffolk as they move towards Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation, Association for Suffolk Museums (AFSM) will: •Review its governance. •Upgrade its communication channels. •Raise the profile of its members. •Deliver a training programme to upskill museum staff, volunteers and trustees. •Advocate for heritage and museums within Suffolk. •Manage a community grant fund for museums, enabling them to be adaptive, resilient and in a stronger position to deliver inclusive and accessible engagement and safeguard heritage assets for the future. This project will celebrate the 40th anniversary of AFSM and our growing community of mostly small, volunteer-led, independent museums. It will demonstrate and sustain the important contribution museums in Suffolk make to heritage, communities, the economy, and the environment.
