Historic Buildings
We will conserve the currently decaying Grade II listed Stricklandgate House (SGH) as a Heritage & Community Hub for Kendal communities, celebrating & making accessible our Georgian built & wider collections heritage for a diverse range of people for the first time, including through new exhibition spaces. We’ll protect the environment by becoming an exemplar of a heritage building with low carbon emissions, contributing to net zero. We’ll achieve long term organisational sustainability by investing in attractive rental, events, meeting and conference spaces for local community-led organisations, and a public café. We will provide an inclusive, accessible, and participatory heritage experience with and for communities, especially those not currently engaging with heritage, including the most vulnerable and under-served who already access critical services which operate from Stricklandgate House. Many more local people will discover their heritage, and we will attract increased tourist visitors, boosting Kendal’s cultural and heritage economy.
