Historic Buildings
In Your Space Circus (IYSC) is restoring the historic Cathedral School in Derry-Londonderry, transforming it into a vibrant home for circus, creativity and inclusive heritage. Phase 2 will save the Grade B+ listed building, currently on the Heritage at Risk Register, through essential restoration and upgrades, creating a community hub for circus training, performance and heritage engagement. A five-year Heritage Activity Plan will bring the site’s story to life through creative tours, workshops, oral histories and performances, celebrating both the school’s past and the rich, underexplored history of circus in Northern Ireland. The restored building will enable IYSC to expand its work with communities and become heritage makers, embedding heritage across everything it does. Developed through extensive consultation, the project offers wide-reaching cultural, educational and social benefits. The Cathedral School will be a place where heritage is remembered, lived, active, joyful and shared together.
